Don't You Know That I Need A Man

(Kayla, 1983)

Just before noon, Cheyenne poked her head in. About time, i thought.

"Guess what?" she said.

"What?" i asked indignantly.

"I got the job! I start next week! A real tattoo studio in Pennsylvania! Can you believe it?"

"Congratulations," i said, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Thanks."

Cheyenne left and i fell back on my bed. What was wrong with these people?

Feeling utterly powerless, i did the only thing i could do under the circumstances: i waited until i heard the door close behind Cheyenne's rear end, and i crawled out of bed to begin packing.

  1. Is this a "tattooed people are circus freaks" kind of reference with "whats wrong with these people?

    1. i dont think she was talking about tattooers... just everyone that keeps bugging her because it sounds like she was still in bed. i dont know how that could have been taken from this.. or thats how i read it!

    2. exactly! cheyenne is just trying to find something in my writing to yell at me about... i can't put "tattoo" or "these people" in sentances NEAR each other, i guess. and i didn't explain it, but since cheyenne was applying for a job in philly and if she got it, i would have to move there with her, i was really not looking forward to it and kind of hoping she wouldn't get the job and she'd have to look for another place in new york. so "these people" where people that were ruining my plan. Not tattooers.

    3. Kayla, I'm not just trying to yell. You don't explain yourself.
