Stood Close

"I'm ready," Cheyenne called from her bedroom.

"We're going to Bershetti's before poker, right? Cause i'm friggen' starving." Eric yelled to Cheyenne from downstairs.

Tom looked to Kayla. "Yeah," he answered Eric. To Kayla he said, "You want to come?"

"To Bershetti's?"

Tom nodded.

"Would i be... i mean, i don't want to interrupt guys' night out."

"You won't." He took her hand in his and squeezed. "Besides, I want you to come. And Cheyenne is coming, too, so it's not a guys' night."

"All right."

Tom dropped Kayla's hand when Cheyenne came out of the bedroom.

"Kayla's coming with," Tom said as he scooped up the keys to his car.

"What? Dude!" Eric stomped his foot.

"Dude," Tom mocked, "I want her to come."

Kayla couldn't help but grin. She was so used to Eric getting his way. It was nice to see someone else telling him how it was.

They piled into Tom's car. Kayla sat in the passenger seat, which put her very close to Tom. Their knees touched the entire time. Kayla had to curl her hands into fists so that she didn't grab Tom's hand. She wanted to, but she didn't want Cheyenne to see.

When they reached Bershetti's and Cheyenne got out, Tom quickly leaned over and pecked Kayla on the lips. He smiled.

At the entrance to Bershetti's, Tom held the door open for her and she hurried past. It took a minute for her eyes to adjust to the softer lighting inside the restaurant and when it did, she froze, noticing the person standing in front of her.

Cheyenne froze, too.

It was Robin.
