(This one takes place after that one story i wrote about telling Eric good luck and Robin thinking that we were dating when he was actually on a date, trying to get back with you. And we just ended up fighting. So, this is inside that date! Know what i'm talking about?)
"Hey," Eric said when Cheyenne reached him.
"Hi. Happy belated birthday, by the way."
He grinned. "Thanks."
"Here." She pulled the ring she'd bought him from her jeans pocket and handed it over. "I know we're not together anymore, but i bought it months ago and it wouldn't be right to give it someone else."
Twirling the ring in the light, he read the inscription. "To the day i die."
"It's still true," she said. "I'll always love you in some way, whether we're in love or not."
"I'll always love you, too." He slipped the ring on his middle finger. It fit perfectly. "I like it."
She met his eyes. "Yeah?"
"I like it enough to want to kiss you right now."
She giggled. God help her, she giggled. How long had it been since she'd lowered herself to giggling? Probably years. Since she and Eric started seeing each other. There was something about him now that made her feel girly and carefree.
"So, are you? Going to kiss me?"
"That depends on whether or not you want me to kiss you."
"You always talk too much," she said, and leaned in.
"I do," he whispered, his minty breath fanning across her face. "And you were always too impatient."
"I was."
"So," Eric said, running his fingers across her jawline."
"So..." she echoed. "Just kiss me already."
And he did.
(What a great ending, eh?)
