Coincedence Part 2

Kayla watched as Robin left Bershetti's with Jeff.

Kayla didn't know Robin was interested in him. What else was she keeping from Kayla? Maybe Robin didn't trust her anymore.

What had she been thinking anyway? This couldn't work.

Tom caught her eye, gave her an encouraging wink. Kayla managed a weak smile.

After they'd eaten, Cheyenne went to the bathroom and Kayla took the opportunity to say everything that had been building up since Robin left.

"This is insane!" was the first thing out of her mouth. "She probably hates me now. We can't do this." She flailed her arms in the air.

"I don't see why you girls' think that Jeff would be bad for her. Jeff is a nice guy. I'm telling you. Things will work out fine, okay?" Eric said.

"Kayla, i'm sure that's what Cheyenne thinks of us. And we're doing fine. Aren't we?"

Kayla cocked her head to the side. "I'm being serious."

Tom smiled. "So am i."

"We can't let her do this."

Tom leaned over suddenly, ranking his fingers through her hair and kissed her. Right there in the middle of the restaurant. It was enough to leave her breathless. "They're already doing it. And there is nothing you can say that is going to make Jeff go away."

For some reason, all the dread and doubt melted away. She smiled.

Cheyenne came back from the restroom, making Kayla and Tom separate. But beneath the tablecloth, Tom took Kayla's hand in his, his thumb rubbing circles on her hand. It was that small act of encouragement and the way Tom looked over at her now that made Kayla want to forget their relationship was a secret.
