Eric was on the phone when Glenn entered the kitchen through the back door of their shared apartment.
Eric leaned across the island with the phone against his shoulder, his pen swiftly gliding over yellow paper. "What was that? Uh-huh... Yeah, I remember--I know. I'll pick you up at eight then. Is that okay? Sure. Okay. Bye bye." A sly smirk spread across Eric's face as he laid the phone against the granite island.
"What are you up to?" Glenn asked, throwing his keys into the plastic bowl beside the door.
"Do you remember the girl I was telling you about last night? She just called me. I'm taking her to dinner tonight. Do you know of any good Thai places around here?" He picked up the yellow paper and held it between his hands. "This is her address. I think i can find it O.K. Do you know where Eagle Lakes Drive is? That's behind the Wendy's, isn't it?"
Glenn stood in the center of the kitchen, his hands tucked away in his coat pockets.
"I'll figure it out," Eric continued. "it can't be hard to find. She must live close to the gym if she walks there everyday."
"Maybe she walks to the gym everyday because she lives far from it. You know, to get her heart pumpin' before the real work out." Glenn wasn't in much of a mood to taunt Eric today. He had too much on his mind.
Just three days ago, Glenn met a woman. She came to the door, dressed in white with red heels. Her blonde hair hung over her shoulders in loose curls. Her face and arms were pleasantly freckled by the sun.
Glenn often felt warm spots, stinging spots on his skin when he talked to her. They moved over him whenever he thought she was looking. Even when she looked away from him, he suspected that she saw his reflection.
His skin was cool. Hers was freckled, pearly on her cheeks and arms.
"Is Eric here?" Her voice was soft. Enchanting. It drew Glenn in like a herd of wild antelope to a fresh water hole.
"He'll be down in a minute." Glenn said with a wary smile.
She stood on the stairs, her delicate dress fluttering in the cool evening breeze.
"Glenn? Dude." Glenn was snapped out of his reverie. "If Tom comes by tomorrow for his song folder tell him it's on my dresser, okay?" Eric was halfway up the stairs, looking back into the kitchen where Glenn stood motionless.
"Maybe." He muttered, grabbing his keys from the dish and heading back out the door.
