Bourbon and Coke

{Fred, 1985}

It was bizarre to see Kayla sitting on Tom's lap, flirtatiously laughing at every lame joke he told. It was apparent that Tom was struggling to act charming. He would start a conversation with a lick of his lips and end it with an obnoxious chuckle.

I stared at him from across the room, seated safely in a leather recliner with a mixed drink of Coke and Bourbon between my hands. I focused on watching Tom with both eyes, trying not to glance over at Robin's breasts leaking from her too-tight top.

"Oh, no. It's only been a year. I think we have the right line up, though. It's a pretty good group of guys." Tom said in reply to Cheyenne, followed by the scheduled chuckle.

"I met Eric the other day, Cheyenne. He seems like a nice guy. Why haven't you brought him over? I'm sure Robin would like to meet him, too. Wouldn't you, Robin?" Kayla nestled her head into Tom's chest. His arm tightened around her and his hand squeezed her shoulder. She smiled, clearly glowing from affection.

I took a sip from my drink and forced myself to look away. Instead, i watched Robin's boobs jiggle as she laughed and said, "I think Cheyenne is just embarrassed by us, Kayla."

"Why would she be?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" Cheyenne began, kicking one leg over the other and settling into the crook of the couch. "Remember when i dated Josh? You told him I ate a dog treat because I was pretending to be Shaggy."

Kayla laughed lightly, the corners of her mouth creeping into a gorgeous smile. "So? It was true!"

"So? Kayla, you don't tell people those things! There is no way I'm introducing you to Eric. Not until we're married."

Tom smiled, too, his crooked teeth a pale yellow. "Well I don't think that will be anytime soon..."
